-Ensure nursing care, treatment and follow-up of patients and/or a population in accordance with doctors’ prescriptions, MSF protocols, respect of universal hygiene standards and context.
- Ensure supervision and training of a team (practical nurses, nurse aid).
-Know, apply and make sure universal hygiene standards and security rules are respected for medical premises, routing of patients, routing of linen. Ensure asepsis rules during all nursing cares. Ensure quality of the sterilization process.
-Compensate (or make sure that someone can compensate in the right way) patient lack of autonomy especially regarding his feeding, his personal hygiene, his movements and his comfort
- Watch out patients with tubes (gastric, urine, etc.): position and permeability of the tube, state of the entry/exit points, aspect, etc recording output quantities
-Know, assess and improve the correct handling and maintenance of the essential.
-Assist the doctors during their daily rounds and inform them of the progress of each patient.
-Respect the doses and administration times of treatments, check expiry dates of medicines.
-Explain what is happening to patients (+/- accompanying persons) and educate them about their illnesses. Explain the treatment given and provide any advice required.
-For oral treatment; check the patients has taken it with the liquid indicated (water, milk).
-During medical consultations, ensure the sorting and detect priority acute cases.
- Apply the doctor’s therapeutic decisions whilst following health care protocols (posing gastric tubes, urine collectors. etc).
- Send material to be sterilised, Recuperate it from sterilisation.
- Collect laboratory results of sample sent to other hospital in the appropriate file and reporting them to the medical referent
- Ensure daily complete briefing to colleague medical ward doctor (and nurse supervisor and/or medical director if applicable).
-Carry out when necessary a therapeutic education of the patient (and family) using a patient based approach.
- Know, assess and improve the correct waste management procedures.
-In case of emergency, carry out first aid care and treatment according to prior written protocol done by the doctor.
