Background/IRC Summary: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee responds to the world’s worsthumanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives.
Working in coordination with the humanitarian community the IRC has been providing assistance from Jordan to vulnerable peoples living in southern Syria. The IRC’s assistance to southern Syria program is primarily focused on health. The IRC continues to support facilities through sub-partner engagement to provide commodities as well as incentives.
Job Overview/Summary:
Pharmaceuticals and Supplies
Provide support and technical input on all issues relevant to pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and equipment within IRC’s implementing partner facilities, static and mobile as well as the IRC and partner warehouses:
Revision of all requests for the procurement of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies before they are submitted for procurement and ensure their compliance with the donor list and national standards. Also, ensure item type and quantities are relevant for the requesting facility through comparison with monthly morbidities.
Perform quality control checks on all items received at the IRC warehouse and prepare a report to be shared with the program and warehouse team.
Conduct warehouse spot checks and ensure the warehouse is up to standard for holding pharmaceuticals and medical items.
Monitor stocks of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies at the IRC warehouse and ensure that stocks are replenished as soon as the identified critical level for a new order is reached.
Raise purchase requests for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies and ensure quantities are based on the actual rates of consumption by the target facilities and that additional quantity is included for anticipated increases and for contingency plans.
Ensure an accurate follow up of drug consumption tracking in supported facilities and create a monthly report with this information. Also, keep a record of these reports.
Ensure that drugs, medical consumables and equipment are stored following international standards and guidelines.
Conduct facility spot checks on the prescription and dispensing of medications.
Train facility pharmacy staff on how to tally daily consumption.
Provide technical support for the implementation and management of the pharmacy activities at supported facilities.
Propose ways to update existing pharmacy data tools and procedures to be implemented at supported facilities.
Conduct quarterly partner warehouse checks and follow up with partners on improvements to ensure adherence to standards.
Technical support
Support IRC partners and supported facilities to comply with national and international standards (including drug stock management guidelines, essential drug list, and standard equipment).
Provide regular updates and reports to Health Coordinator and the health team as required; and contribute to donor reports and internal IRC reports.
Ensure that needs of partners in pharmaceutical management are identified and addressed through trainings.
Support the health team in tracking and supervision of mental health medications at the IRC warehouse and facility level.
Train facility staff on the prescription of drugs according to treatment guidelines and protocols.
