JOB DESCRIPTION -
1. SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES
a. Management and coordination: The chief translator manages the translation unit at the Communication Department of Amman Delegation.
b. Translation: translates specialized ICRC texts from English into Arabic and vice versa for various ICRC departments, including the management, according to need. Support all departments in the translation of institutional documents, including legal agreements and contracts. According to professional ethics, the chief translator guarantees a high quality in all these tasks and takes into account the ICRC glossary of terms and the style manual. Provide translation support to the HOD and DHoD whenever needed.
c. Revision: revises texts translated from English into Arabic and vice versa upon request by other departments, including the HOD’s office, to ensure high quality according to ICRC standards.
d. Participation and interpretation in events: interpret (simultaneous, consecutive, etc.) from English into Arabic and vice-versa for the HOD and other staff during meetings, conferences, workshops and seminars, in cooperation and coordination with the second translator in the unit and according to need.
e. Provide translated executive summaries of documents upon request.
2. OFFICE ACTIVITIES
a. Team supervision: The chief translator leads, supervises and coaches the unit’s translator(s) and appraises his (their) work regularly. S/he develops and maintains a pleasant working atmosphere with colleagues and superiors, and participates in conflict management when necessary.
b. Administration/Finance: The chief translator ensures that necessary administrative work is implemented on time. S/he knows, applies and complies with all work-related administrative procedures (time reporting, assignment contracts for external translators, ROs etc).
c. Reporting: The chief translator participates in weekly, quarterly, biannual and ad-hoc reports.
d. Treatment of information: S/he registers and treats information accurately and confidentially when applicable, and saves important messages, documents and materials of interest to the ICRC in the electronic archive.
3. SUPPORT TO THE DELEGATION
• S/he participates actively in delegation meetings relevant to her/his work.
