Job Purpose:
Meeting and guiding incoming aircraft to appropriate parking areas, directing aircraft into parking position through hand signals, securing aircraft (e.g., chock wheels, attach ground wires, placing safety cones and install lock pins). In addition, marshaling requires use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as motor vehicle operating and tractor operating (aircraft towing).
Principal Accountabilities:
Technical:
- Operate "follow me" vehicles (e.g., pickup trucks) to guide arriving aircraft to predetermined parking areas and direct aircraft into parking position
- Securing aircraft (e.g., install wheel chocks, locking devices and attach ground wires)
- Operate tow tractors with tow bars or towbarless tractors to tow and position ground support equipment near aircraft to be serviced
- Perform setup and operation of ground support equipment
- Skill in safe work procedures involving operations such as engine starts and shutdowns
- Knowledge of ground traffic control regulations, airfield layout and appropriate hand signals to direct an aircraft
- Knowledge of the various auxiliary power requirements (e.g., electrical and/or pneumatic) necessary to start an aircraft
- Receive detailed oral and written assignments from the supervisor or a higher grade employee. Detailed regarding the specific type of aircraft to be met and the services required
- Operate heavy-duty tow tractors to tow and position a variety of large aircraft on taxiways and in crowded hangars and congested areas that require considerable maneuvering of the towed aircraft
- Use a specialized tow vehicle and towbar to perform precise aircraft positioning
General & Administrative:
- Comply with health, safety and environment standards
- Safe operation of vehicles and ground support equipment to prevent injury to themselves and damage to aircraft and equipment
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications
- Adhere to company procedures and abide to the organization’s code of ethics
