• Preventive health services for management of NCDs: These advanced workshops will focus on building CHVs’ capacity (including supervisors) in NCD management. 10 three-day workshops (one in each target Governorate) will be delivered in community settings by an SMT and IRD’s Public Health Specialist. The workshops will reinforce previously acquired knowledge and skills for preventive healthcare including:
Primary prevention: Health promotion and specific protection strategies focusing on non-clinical interventions that promote healthy life choices, e.g., eating nutritious meals, age- and culture-appropriate exercises, avoiding smoking.
Secondary prevention: Reinforcing knowledge on optimizing HVs and referrals to facilitate early diagnosis and prompt treatment, e.g., the benchmarks for preventive physical and psychosocial health screenings (including mammography, blood pressure screening, cardiac risk screening, cancer screenings, STD screenings, psychosocial trauma screening, etc.); referring refugees to appropriate providers in a timely manner.
On Day 3 of the preventive health training, a joint discussion session for both CHVs and senior and MoH clinical staff to discuss existing challenges in chronic illness management and improving community-clinical linkages to address them. IRD will use these recommendations, as well as data collected through interviews with CHVs, health service providers, and relevant MoH personnel to inform NCD management Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) to be incorporated in the CHV manual.
• Training on Organizing Community Health Education Events: In Year 1, 20 CHEs will receive one two-day training on promoting health education through community events. The training will cover a range of topics, including designing community events; strategies to optimize community participation; engaging local CBOs, schools, religious organizations, and community leaders in events and follow-up outreach; developing strategies to improve stakeholder participation and local leadership; and gathering and using community feedback to improve health education activities.
