Project Background:
Under the funding of WFP, ACTED has been monitoring WFP’s food assistance programme in the 4 northern Jordan governorates of Mafraq, Irbid, Ajloun and Jerash. Based on WFP targeting criteria, in August, the total number of extremely vulnerable beneficiaries was 112,436 and the total number of moderately vulnerable individuals was 88,826 - with a total of 201,262 beneficiaries. In doing so, ACTED partners with 7 CBOs and monitors 79 WFP shops across the 4 governorates. In the 4 northern governorates targeted, Syrian refugees are confronted with food insecurity resulting from a combination of factors such as a low level of food assistance, limited legal income-generating opportunities given restricted access to work permits and a reluctance on the part of some Jordanian employers to hire Syrian refugees and to remunerate them adequately.
Moving forward, ACTED wishes to build the technical skills of CBO representatives and focal persons through the provision of technical trainings focusing on 3 main topics: 1) needs assessments and monitoring and evaluation; 2) food security and nutrition; and 3) food production and processing. A total of 9 training sessions shall be conducted during the 6-month period - 3 sessions per topic. A technical trainer or several trainers shall be hired to do so. Involving national and local stakeholders in the delivery of this activity will allow for increased local ownership and sustainability of the project by enhancing professional links between respected and reputable national institutions and rising local CBOs.
