Product Manager; Product or Category Manager is the Brand Owner, responsible for the brands general KPIs such as overall performance, profitability, and healthy stock, excluding offtake and sales. Together with the Account Manager, (Category Team) is completely responsible for the brands overall performance.
- Main Roles of a Product Manager:
Planning, forecasting & Reporting; Preparing a number of reports and marketing plans in coordination with the suppliers and the Account.
Order; Placing order for SKUs to maintain a healthy stock level, (average of 3 months of sales according to the AMS, and stock on hand), variety of product range, availability of new product lines.
The orders are placed once the Sales Achievement Report and the SSR reports are submitted on a monthly basis in coordination with the Account Manager.
Profitability; Assuring the realization of the agreed upon margins communicated earlier for each brand. Which allow room for promotions and trade marketing activities that would fall under the expense of the Marketing Development Funds (MDF) or Advertising and Promotional budget (A&P).
Hence, it is important to communicate all promotions and price discounts, and trade deals with suppliers with who provide marketing budget to obtain their approval before execution. Also, following up on damages and other credit notes which can be obtained from the suppliers.
Pricing; Having a price structure for each brand which consists of all the price to trade for all retail shops, including as well the percentage of rebate. Each price structure is created once, but always maintained to include new Customs, handling charges, rebate percentages, new items and updated prices.
Activities execution; Drawing the main outline of marketing activities and their execution especially with regards to pricing, segmentation, positioning, branding and duration.
Relationship with Supplier; Maintaining a good relationship with all the brands suppliers. Also, generating regular reports and updates on market situation
Take overall responsibility for the success of your product; managing the entire product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
Contribute towards product strategy and vision;
Create timelines and roadmaps for developing the product;
Attend conferences and events related to a product or sector
Research competitors and similar products.
