The Senior Communications Specialist (SCS) post is a full-time position designed to assist the ICT Manager in supporting EMPHNET’s communication channels. The overall objective of the consultant is to design and implement an effective communication strategy, in line with the focus areas and expected results of EMPHNET’s different programs, at the regional and country levels, acting in accordance with the objectives and ethos of EMPHNET His/her jobs also include executing annual plan, documenting progress and sharing information. S/he has both a technical and administrative role in EMPHNET’s projects, including the following responsibilities :
Manage and update EMPHNET communication channels and make sure its updated and have all projects and technical information reflected as appropriate. He/she will be responsible to keep EMPHNET communication channels updated and seek approval for the published content and external communication.
1. Demonstrated experience in writing and editing a variety of print and online communications media to include websites, publications, articles, briefings and presentations.
2. Demonstrated experience in contributing to knowledge products including technical publications, reports, learning briefs, updates/newsletters, brochures, presentations, videos, posters, social media content.
3. Creatively use of EMPHNET communications channels to raise the profile and brand of EMPHNET and feed into the communications strategy and improve visibility on the local, regional and global levels.
4. Ensure that communication outputs are of a high standard, respond to the needs of the target
audience, and are delivered within agreed budget and timelines.
5. Work to improve EMPHNET website and social media presence.
6. Manage the publication and promotion of EMPHNET materials, including design and printing.
7. Perform day-to-day communication work and seek division manager support in resolving issues and advice on implementation.
8. Participate in regular meetings to evaluate progress of action programs and strategies.
9. Initiate internal communications, including developing newsletter content, email shots,
announcements…etc.
10. Maintain a strong brand for EMPHNET, including impactful and fit-for-purpose publications, website, and social media.
11. Coordinate media and public affairs activities to promote EMPHNET and its services.
12. Manage the monitoring of media and current affairs developments, across a wide range of media
with respect to EMPHNET interest.
13. Review press statements and articles on public health issues for internal and external
communications.
14. Manage the publication and promotion of EMPHNET materials, including design and production.
15. Build on existing and develop new relationships with media, key decision makers, member
organizations and others.
16. Provide line-management and support to staff within the communications team
17. Organize and facilitate training sessions for focal points (at the regional and country levels) on the areas of strategic communications, with emphasis on development, editing and publishing of the contents of strategic information material for advocacy and capacity building purposes.
18. Effectively monitors and evaluates various communication tools and activities to measure the impact on achieving the overall objectives.
19. Support planning and implementation of communication activities as designed in the country specific plans.
20. Undertake other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time.
