Optimal Data Systems is an American based company partnering with Al-Hekma IT company in Amman to implement IT projects in the middle east; mainly Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and UAE. The main office for this hiring is in Amman, Jordan. The current project posting is for a project in Saudi Arabia.
The Big Data Operations Engineer will be responsible for supporting BigData applications, creating infrastructure designs and guiding the development and implementation of cloud applications, systems and processes. This position will be working directly with BigData application developers and system administrators to build, deploy and maintain highly available and scalable systems in private or public cloud environments. The candidate must be self-managing, proactive and responsive, highly-motivated and technically proficient. S/he must also have good communication skills. The candidate will need to be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced team environment.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities & Duties
• Hadoop administration (multiple distributions e.g. CDH, MapR), upgrades, installs, tuning, etc.
• Elastic Search Administration, upgrades, installs and tuning, etc.
• Realtime Streaming applications (e.g. Kafka, Spark Streaming, Flink, Flume)
• Cloud and virtualization based technologies (Amazon Web Services (AWS), VMWare)
• Experience with different storage technologies, hdfs, S3, EBS, Netapp, Isilon
• Application Server Administration (nginx, Tomcat, Node.js).
• Linux/UNIX Administration (Amazon Linux and RedHat).
• Developing and supporting cloud infrastructure designs and implementations and guiding application development teams.
• Strong scripting and Configuration Management tools (Chef or Puppet).
• Automate infrastructure and application deployment related tasks.
• Automate repetitive tasks required to maintain a secure an up to date operational environment.
Additional:
• Support always-available private/public cloud based software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications.
• Create and revise infrastructure and architectural designs and implementation plans and guide the implementation with operations.
• Interface between application development, infrastructure support and tools (IT Services) teams.
• Work with resources in multiple geographies especially extended team in India.
• Development and documentation of Chef recipes. Support throughout the entire deployment lifecycle (development, quality assurance and production).
• Help developers leverage infrastructure, application and cloud platform features and functionality and participate in code and design reviews.
• Create knowledge sharing presentations and documentation to help developers and operations teams understand and leverage the systems capabilities.
• Learn on the job and explore new technologies with little supervision.
• Leverage scripting (BASH, Perl, Ruby, Python) to build required automation and tools on an ad hoc basis.
