Based in Amman with a satellite office in Tunis, the office supports a diverse group of civil society organizations, research centers, universities, and media organizations across the Arab world in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and Tunisia.
Job profile
The Arab Regional Office is recruiting a Team Manager to be based in their Amman office. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Team Manager would oversee the Rights & Governance team and have overall responsibility for the team members’ development of strategies, work plans, as well as coordinating reviews of strategic portfolios and peer learning.
The Rights & Governance team has a diverse focus on human rights institutions, movements, equality, anti-discrimination, justice and the rule of law. In addition to managing a team of 5 employees, the Team Manager will serve as the Program Officer responsible for managing the justice and rule of law portfolio. The portfolio includes grant making at the regional level; particularly in Morocco and Tunisia with the possibility of future expansion to other countries. The justice and rule of law’s portfolio work will focus on the independence of the judiciary, civil society capacity, justice sector reform as well as enforcement of constitutions. The portfolio will also focus on advocating for the introduction of strong checks and balances in governing frameworks. Essential duties and responsibilities may include:
- operating with considerable autonomy and having responsibility for all grant-making activities
- working within the broader program strategy and budget design, making and assessing grants, and making use of other appropriate tools for advancing goals
- developing collaborative relationships inside and outside Open Society Foundations (e.g., with existing grantees, prospective grantees, experts, media, etc.)
- participating in the development of overall program strategy and conducting research to support program design
- supervising and guiding the work of program and/or administrative staff in support of grant-making or other program activities
- hiring and managing consultants for research, evaluation, and capacity building purposes.
- representing the Arab Regional Office in public meetings and stakeholder convening
- supervising and mentoring direct-report staff, including communicating clear expectations and setting performance objectives
